Today's five for fighting is sans video, for now.
For those of you that don't know, Frenchy and I work at the same place. Our seemingly ever shrinking company is now shrinking office space as well. Frenchy and I are now office mates.
We call him Frenchy because he is French-Canadian.
I am American.
There will be tension in the office this morning.
Trust me.
Frenchy has been doing some pretty serious smack talkin' about that Canadian team for WEEKS!
You know, that team that isn't getting the bye?
That team that everyone (Canadian & Adrian Dater) thought was going to HAMMER the USA?
Yeah, that team.
So if it comes to fisticuffs, I'll try to get it on video and post it.
All I can say is I value our friendship and I'll never forget that you taught me how to make poutine.
But if we gotta go, that's just the way it is!
I'll let you all know who wins this round of Canada vs. USA

Real Winter Olympics
When I first started this blog I took a look at what I meant by a “Real Sport”. You can review that article, or you just hang with me here and I’ll tell you that you need apply only one rule when determining the status of a sport, either real…or not. Simply apply the helmet test. Does the participant wear a helmet? Then yes, it is a real sport.
So let’s take a look at the Winter Olympics and se what’s real and what’s not.
Helmets
Alpine skiing
Bobsled
Freestyle Skiing
Hockey
Luge
Nordic Combined
Short Track
Skeleton
Ski Jumping
Snowboarding
Speed Skating
No helmet
Biathlon
Cross-country
Curling
Figure Skating
Nordic Combined
Luge, skeleton and bobsled, yep, helmets. Are these guys sane? Real sport or extreme sport?
The Nordic combined might be the oddest pairing of competitions, ski jumping and X-country. One all balls, the other so lame. I’ll let you decide which is which.
Ah curling, um…no. No I’ve gotten a little flack about liking figure skating, but this is the DUMBEST ‘sport’ ever. What can possibly be dumber than sweeping ice? And I love the replays they show of the draw. Do we really need a slow motion replay of a rock that is already moving at a mere 5 mph? That’s about 8 kph for you Canadians. Hilarious! And, even better, they get time outs! What do you need a time out for? And how about that Curling Caliper? That is some serious hardware for determining the winner of a close match. That isn’t something you just buy at the hardware store. While I was watching the US-Swiss match the Swiss spent SO much time discussing a draw that even the announcers were getting impatient. Or bored, is that possible? Hehehe.
Ok, so I like figure skating despite the fact that it isn’t a real sport. I’ve been accused of having a little frou-frou in my step, and I do like a latte, a good latte, with a lot of espresso, but so what? Figure skaters are like the rock stars of the Olympics. They wear the costumes, they rock it out to the music, they get the girls…er…ok, forget that.
Biathlon – helmets? No, but guns! Can we call this what it really is? A bunch of guys got kicked out of their house by their wives up in Norway and decided to ski around and shoot things. Somehow it turned into an Olympic event. Face it; this would be a lot more interesting if these guys were shooting at a dunk-tank target with Lindsey Vonn sitting on the bench with nothing on but a white t-shirt.
So about 2/3 of the Winter Olympics are real sports, that would account for all the time I’m spending in front of the boob-tube!
I’ll leave you with this picture. A X-country skier crashing off the course. Really, were you going about 10 mph or what? How does that happen?

Men’s Short Program
NBCOlympics.com has this great scoring online where you just score the skaters live. You can see how other users are scoring and of course the judges.
The users, judges and I were all getting along until they scored Oda higher than Lambiel. Ridiculous. Oda was all skill and no feeling with mechanical choreography. Terrible work by the judges.
The users eventually rated Takahashi over Plushenko, yeah, arguable. But by the end of the night Lysacek first? No.
So here’s my scoring.
Now the judges and I don’t have the same values but I would say I did well to order the skaters in an order that is pretty close to that of the experts.
Turns out Johnny Weir was not the weirdo of the night. It’s hard to say what was worse: Contesti’s farmer overalls or Van Der Perren’s skeleton bodysuit

SUV’s vs Watchmakers
As a certified arrogant American, (aren’t we all?) I just want to ask Yahoo! what the heck they think they are doing with this ridiculous map of the world showing where the US is, as if you don’t already know! The only thing more maddening than American Conceit® is disingenuous modesty.
Speaking of arrogance, the Canadian team asked the IOC for a pass-thru to the Medal Round, I mean seriously, just give them the points, haven’t you seen the women’s team? Wow, what a power-house!
It’s Fat Tuesday and haven’t the Alcohol Olympics started in New Orleans? And what about Quebec City? Do they even care that Canada is playing a game today? Of course not!
I think Zach Parise should consider giving up his #9 for Lent and take the #8 so that I can call the Parise-Stastny-Kane line “The Crazy Eight” line! For those of you that are math-challenged, Stastny’s #26 ADDS UP TO eight, got that?
What I don’t understand about the box score of this game is how the score can be 3-1 but Drury doesn’t have a hat trick. Wha? Obviously there has been another major Olympic gaffe by the officials. Embarrassing!
I thought the Almost Crazy Eight line looked good. The US rolled over the Swiss like an SUV over a Timex. Yeah, I used a US made watch on purpose, the Swiss wouldn’t go away. You know, they just kept on ticking.
Where’s this youthful speed we were hearing all about? Well, maybe they were a little nervous? They came out flying but after peppering the Swiss goalie with no goals, they seemed to dial it down a little.
Speed kills!
Ok, I’ve got to go drive all over town to find the cheapest gas for my SUV. More later!

Five for Fighting Monday
No Five 4 Fighting today but look for some Olympic coverage over the next couple weeks. Don't cha know the gloves never fail to come off during international competition.
Whoops, what did I just say? Look! A Fight!
Oh Claude, you've come so far since your turtle fighting days. I never did understand that, who fights turtles? Anyway, speaking of Claude, I should warn you to expect some figure skating coverage soon. If you believe that your manhood will be questioned by reading such coverage, I suggest you take a break for a couple weeks till the NHL resumes.
If you think said coverage calls into question MY manhood...all I have to say to you is...
WANNA FIGHT?
